HMMM... LAST POST... MAYBE...
Ok, so that wasn’t my last post after all :)
It seems the end of the band has stirred up some interesting views on the local music blogosphere, so I thought I’d compile some links with background info for you.
The good:
Not sure who this is, but it’s clearly someone who liked us. They copy/pasted G’s own words into their blog post and merely mentioned they would miss us. No judging. No slating. From the horse’s mouth as it were.
http://musicalmover.wordpress.com/2009/01/30/the-shy-guevaras-no-more/ The confused:Levi reviewed our album when it came out (gave it 7 stars I might add ?), yet in this article they got the album name completely wrong – its “We owe you one” and not “This one’s for you” guys – LOL. Anyway, there are couple of other misguided statements in there like us breaking up because “the Shy Guevaras can’t handle the press” which is so far from the truth it’s a bit funny …The saddest part is that I actually responded to Levi’s questions they mention in the article the day I received them from our PR guys (click on Archives on the right if you want to read the interview), so I can only assume that there was some logistical issue on the part of our PR guys as to why Levi didn’t get them on time… Anyway, here’s their take on the whole thing….
http://www.levi.co.za/MusicMag/Category/Detail/Detail.aspx?ID=1060 The ugly:This one is pretty classic. This Dave guy does actually know us (because we shared campsite with him while we were on tour at Splashy Fen in the Drakensburg) so I can’t figure out why he is claiming he doesn’t. Some serious anger issues here. You have to read it from the top down. I particularly appreciate Gareth’s comments – bro, if you’re reading this, thanks for the nice words. I really appreciate it. Anyway, enough man-hugging… Onto the swearing… Enjoy… Like I said, this one’s classic… Oh, and Dave, we owe you one.

PORA OUT.
P.S. Don’t forget, last show tonight at Zula Bar from 9pm and R30 gets you in ?
LISTEN TO OUR NEW TRACK - ALL SYSTEMS GO!
We got the opportunity to record a new track at the renown Cape Town recording studio Sound and Motion Studios and mix the track to tape at a world class recording facility in San Francisco in the United States with local producer Simon "Fuzzy" Ratcliffe (Lark)!
Now, this is not the tape you used to put in your cassette player - this is the 2 inch tape that Led Zepplin, Henrdrix, RHCP, etc recorded to and which is today expensive for artists who prefer to settle for the digital alternative.
Needless to say the whole thing has been a fantastic experience and we are really happy with the final product! We will be releasing it along with a few of our acoustic tracks from the White Room Sessions as an EP (which was also recorded at Sound and Motion studios).
In the meantime, here's a low quality MP3 rip for you to listen to... Enjoy!

WE'RE CALLING IT A DAY...
As most of you probably already know we are officially disbanding.
After much deliberation we have decided to call it a day. There isn’t one single reason. There are a bunch of reasons that, when added up, result in the inevitable decision to bow out. There is an official press release that has gone out from p1mp - you should find it on a website or two out there.
We are having a last show for any of you diehard, thigh-slapping fans out there ? Here are the details in black and gray – it would be cool to see ALL of you for the last time:
WHAT: Shy Guevaras Live
WHEN: Friday 13th March 2009 (Ominous… So damn luminous)
WHERE: Zula Sound Bar, Long Street, Cape Town
WHY: Because we owe you one
HOW: Plugged and louder than ever
There’s an event on FaceBook that you can respond to - here’s the link:
http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=122435095690 This being my last post on the site, so I thought I would take this quick opportunity to do the clichéd thing and thank the most important people in this band – you!
That’s right, it’s you guys who kept us going for 3 long years and it’s you guys who have made this all worthwhile. In answer to a question I had to field in a Levi interview last week about the band’s end I told them that “Shy Guevaras were happiest during the 40 minutes we spent together on stage belting out a set.” …and the reason we were happiest is because you guys were out there rocking out to our songs! Shy Guevaras did some amazing things – we toured the country, played live radio and TV, and best of all, shared the stage with our favourite bands and musicians at last year’s MyCokeFest. None of this would have been possible without you. So thank you. Like I said… We owe you one.
PORA OUT.
